Opinion Column on Mother Tongue by: Amy Tan Our mother tongue languages are the most  important  part of our existence and it makes most of our identity, however there has always been an argument about weather or not everyone around the whole world needs to learn the Standard English. Well, to be honest that’s not true at all! In fact you need to believe that the importance of a persons language is imbedded in there home language, because that is what makes them unique in there own culture and personality. Textual Analysis :Kool A.D In Kool A.D.’s guide on “How to pay for a baby”, he uses colloquialism and incomprehensible slang diction to portray his point of views on raising a baby for the first time to his targeted audience. While reading this text it is evident that the chose of idiolect used by the author illustrates that he is trying to entertain the readers in some ways. In addition to that, he is being critical to the society and trying to persuade clueless teens not to have kids at such a young age. It is evident that A.D does not use formal articulated language in this column because for example, in the third paragraph A.D. uses a phrase “Hella empty buildings… hella different tasks”. This example depicts that his choice of diction is amusing to the reader, however while some phrases may seem slang, there is still a strong hidden meaning behind the main theme he is trying to send out through those phrases. Part 1:- My interest revolves around baking and dancing; I like to bake whenever I am stressed and sad since it helps me calm down and gain some sense of happiness back. Baking is my first favorite interest and then comes my second favorite, which is dancing. Dancing helps me have fun when I am bored and helps me interact with new faces that I have never seen before. Moving on, the most thing I care about is my family because they are always there for me whenever I need there help or advice. I also do care about getting good grades at school to please myself and my parents as well. Furthermore, I think it is important to study language because it helps people when they move to a different country or region, learning the local language will help them to communicate and integrate with the local community. Also, I think it is important when people get to the stage of their life when they go to work because, it involves regular contact with speakers of foreign languages, being ab
